As the old man walked the
beach at dawn,
he noticed a young man ahead of him
picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea.
Finally, catching up with the youth,
he asked him why he was doing this.
The answer was that the stranded starfish
would die if left until the morning sun.
"But the beach goes on for miles, and there
are millions of starfish" the old man said.
"How can your effort make a difference"?
The young man looked at the starfish in his
hand then threw it to safety in the waves.
"It makes a difference to this one"
was the boy's answer.
"I like being a
surfcaster
a guy who fishes the beach
Who chases fish and diving birds
even when they're out of reach
I carry a rod that's rather long
and a bag that's full of plugs
A pair of waders and a gaff
and repellent for the bugs
I've made lot's of friends along the way
some are really unique
We talk of tides of yesterday
and that "fish" we lost last week
A way of life is what it is
I leave all worries behind
'cause when I'm out there on the beach
Only Fishin's on my mind"
